This will include an introduction to diagnosis coding (ICD-9 and ICD-10), procedure coding (CPT and HCPCS), billing and reimbursement processes and understanding insurance companies; as well as Medical Insurance Billing as a Career, HIPPA & HITECH, Health Insurance basics, Medical Record Documentation, Electronic Data Exchange, Claim Reimbursement, Fees, BCBS, Managed Care, Private Insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, CHAMPVA, Workers Compensation, and Disability Income Insurance.

The basics of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software are also explored so that you become better prepared for jobs in this field.

This course provides structured lessons on reading comprehension, critical reading and analysis, composition, vocabulary, grammar, usage, and mechanics. Through emphasis on spelling, students learn relationships between sounds and spellings in words and affixes. Lessons are designed to develop comprehension, hone critical reading skills, build vocabulary, and help students evaluate and apply the ideas they have learned from their reading. Students practice writing as they write a memoir, editorial, research paper, business letter, and more. Students learn about parts of speech, punctuation, and research skills. Students study literature in a variety of genres including fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, and novels. Students also learn to work with technology and multimedia through the short and extended projects.

This is the second semester of a two part course, offered over a condensed 4 week term.

Students read selections from British and world literature in a loosely organized chronological framework. They analyze the themes, styles, and structures of these texts and make thematic connections among diverse authors, periods, and settings. Students complete guided and independent writing assignments that refine their analytical skills. They have opportunities for creative expression in projects of their choice. Students also practice test-taking skills for standardized assessments in critical reading and writing.

This is the first semester of a two part course, offered over a condensed 4 week term.

This high school health course focuses on important skills and knowledge in nutrition; physical activity; the dangers of substance use and abuse; injury prevention and safety; growth and development; and personal health, environmental conservation, and community health resources. The curriculum is designed around topics and situations that engage student discussion and motivate students to analyze internal and external influences on their health-related decisions.
